This fish was caught by casting almost parallel to the shore. It hit a crank bait on the surface as I was pulling it out of the water. Once it was photographed and weighed, it was quickly released.

This Smallmouth Bass weighed just over 7 lbs on a borrowed spring scale which would have made it a potential Illinois state record. 3/26/2000
