Catch Photo Release

There were some open pockets in this skim ice so we were able to launch the boat and navigate to them until the barges came through and broke up the remaining ice. You have to be very careful launching a boat in these conditions to avoid damage to your boat, motor, and gear. Every safety precaution should be observed because a person would not last long if they fell into this cold water. A lifejacket is a must. If one should fall into the water, the best thing to do is bring your knees up to your chest to conserve heat until you can be rescued. Without a life jacket, that would not be possible. 1/09/2004
