There were
some open pockets in this skim ice so we were able to launch the boat
and navigate to them until the barges came through and broke up the
remaining ice. You have to be very careful launching a boat in these
conditions to avoid damage to your boat, motor, and gear. Every safety
precaution should be observed because a person would not last long if
they fell into this cold water. A lifejacket is a must. If one should
fall into the water, the best thing to do is bring your knees up to your
chest to conserve heat until you can be rescued. Without a life jacket,
